Portraits by Pro-lens Image

We are studio portrait specialists, but also do some outdoor portrait work.  For some, deciding whether to do a portrait in the studio or outside is decided upon by the weather.  If you need your portrait done on a specific day (special occasion or out-of-town guests are to be included while visiting), we can plan for an outdoor portrait and use the studio, if necessary.

Other types of portraits, in our opinion, are better suited to the studio.  While family portraits done outside, say in a park or at the beach, are very attractive, maternity and infant portraits are usually best done in the studio.  Most people doing our sexy photo session also choose the studio.

We want your portrait to last forever (or close to it).  So, we use paper that has been estimated to last 100 years.  We then apply a protective coating to keep fingerprints and UV exposure from damaging the prints.  It also prevents the print from sticking to glass when it's framed without a mat.

Dress Code

To make the portrait the best it can be, we need your cooperation.  An otherwise excellent portrait can be affected by a poor choice in clothing by some or all of the subjects in the portrait.  So, please keep the following points in mind when deciding what you and everyone else should wear.

  • Decide whether you want a casual type of portrait, or more formal.  Then ask everyone to dress accordingly (it doesn't look good when everyone is in jeans, except for one person who wore a suit).
  • Darker colours are favoured over bright clothes.  However, if you prefer brightly coloured fabrics, ask everyone to be in the same tonal range.  The eye is drawn to the brightest part of the portrait first, so if one person has a pink top on while everybody else is in navy blue and burgundy, the attention goes to the one in pink.
  • Solid colours will stand the test of time much better than patterns.  Because certain patterns will never be seen again, it will make the portrait less desirable when that pattern (if worn for the portrait) goes out of fashion.  Also, shy away from trendy colours for the same reason.
  • If anyone is not happy with their current weight, he/she should consider wearing long sleeves.  Arms, especially on women, are a 'sore point' for people who think they weigh more than they want to.
  • Yes, PhotoShop can allow us to do almost anything to a portrait.  Standard retouching includes removing blemishes, scars, and stray hairs.  Our weight reduction program costs extra.

The Portrait Process

It may have been a long time since you last had your portrait done, so things may be done differently since then.  Also, we may do things differently than other studios ... so here is how our process works:

  • You contact us to make an appointment and choose studio or outdoors
  • We ask for a $125 'downpayment' -- this is NOT a sitting fee in the traditional sense.  As long as you order your portraits within two weeks of your portraits being available for viewing, the $125 is deducted from your order.  If you procrastinate and take longer than two weeks, then the $125 will be considered a sitting fee and is non-refundable.
  • You (and whoever else is in the portrait) have your portrait done.
  • Within a couple of days, we send you a link to your private online gallery.
  • You choose the images you want and order them online.  The system allows you to select from colour, b/w, or sepia.
  • We print your order and inform you when it's ready (usually a few days)
  • You pick up and pay for your order (cheque, Interac, Visa and MasterCard are accepted), or you arrange payment and we mail your order to you.

The prices shown below are for the standard sizes.  However, we can print whatever size you need ... whether it be two inches by two inches, or two feet by four feet.  Standard retouching is included, but anything beyond bemishes, scars and stray hairs will cost extra (e.g., making someone appear thinner).  Prices are lower if you order more than one print from each image.  Please contact us if you want to receive our complete price list.

We are available almost anytime, but by appointment only.  Most of our work is done in the evenings and weekends because that's when most people are available.
